LOMO COFFEE & RESTAURANT | REVIEW

lomo coffee and restaurant

A little while back, I met up with @nafisahdaily and @reedah_kabeer for brunch. We decided to visit Lomo cafe and restaurant after leaving the main restaurant we had picked out because they had electricity issues. I’m pretty glad we ended up at Lomo Coffee & restaurant because, aesthetically, this cafe is the embodiment of the phrase ‘less is more.’ The decor is so understated and elegant, it’s almost calming. It’s the place to go if you’re looking for a relaxed dining experience in Abuja.

Let’s jump into the review.

Ambiance

I thought I had seen it all when it came to beautiful restaurant decor, but this place takes the cake. From the moment you walk in, you’re bombarded by the patterns and colour palette. it’s definitely one of the most aesthetic places I’ve ever eaten. The statement piece is definitely the large bookshelf covering the entire wall. It’s different and elevates the entire room. It gives a library-y yet homey feel. There was a traditional Asian kimono on the wall in the tea room where we sat, and it was so beautiful and very on-theme. I loved the play on lines, there were a lot of details and you could tell that there was a lot of planning that went into the architecture.

FOOD

Tang chui chi chicken wings

Tang Chui Chi Chicken is a stir-fried chicken dish that is popular in Cantonese cuisine. The name translates to “chicken with ginger and spring onion” in Chinese. Slightly spicy and kinda sweet. It was juicy and tasty. The ginger and spring onions add a touch of freshness, while the soy sauce and oyster sauce give the dish a savoury flavour. The red pepper flakes add a bit of heat. All the flavours married well together and we loved every bite.

Lomo special tea

This tea was different; it had a spicy, perfumey aroma. The smell is quite calming, but you can’t perceive it until it’s close to your nose. The tea had a mild flavour and tasted almost bland, but the honey helped bring some sweetness to it.

Shrimp espérasse

The presentation of this dish was different, we were taken aback when it was served. I loved the shrimp. It had a smokey flavour that was quite pronounced and so balanced and tasty. The mashed potatoes were good too, and the vegetables were seasoned well and had great texture. But it could have used some sauce because, together, it was a little dry.

Arrabiata pasta

This arrabiata pasta was a delight! I liked that it was balanced, though we felt that it could do with a bit more seasoning, but it tasted good all the same. The pasta was al dente, and the chicken was seared well. The tomato flavours shined through and had a really good flavour. However, the dish was too oily.

MENU AND BUDGET

Lomo Coffee and Restaurant has a large menu that combines multiple cuisines in one. They also serve brunch. I think it’s somewhat moderately priced. They also charge a 7.5% VAT and a 5% service charge separately. You can view the menu by clicking the link in the barcode below 👇🏼

The budget per person is between 10,000 – 15,000 per person, depending on what you order.

Service

The service was pretty chill. They had polite staff, but the food took longer than expected.

General thoughts

Lomo Coffee and Restaurant is a must-visit. it has a relaxed vibe that makes it ideal to use as a workspace. The food is good too and the service is adequate. I would be visiting here again.
