Now let’s get down to business. The first time I heard of Dodo pizza, I thought it was a Nigerian business that makes their pizza dough with plantain flour ?. Dodo Pizza is a pizza delivery franchise with over 600 pizzerias across 15 countries. Their newest location is in our very own BUJ! It’s located at the Novare Gateway Mall in Lugbe. Their space is very urban and modern. Yeah, I know what you are thinking, Lugbe far o (unless you live in Lugbe). But as the saying goes, if Muhammad can not go to the mountain, the mountain will come to Muhammad. Dodo pizza can come to you with their delivery service, so na to just dey house dey order anyhow.

There is also an Ice cream store in the same space named Scoopd, and you know here in Naija, pizza and ice cream go together like Garri and groundnut ?. 

DODO PIZZA ABUJA MENU

They have a variety of flavors available. They’ve incorporated a lot of Nigerian flavors into their menu to appeal to our Naija palate. From Nigerian-style shawarma pizza to chicken suya, and my personal favorite, the dodo supreme, with actual plantain (dodo)?. The pizza is affordable and pretty good for the price.  

I tried out four different pizza flavors and some ice cream, so continue reading to find out how they taste. 

REVIEW OF THE FOOD AT DODO PIZZA ABUJA

DODO SUPREME PIZZA – 5200

This pizza was my personal favorite, maybe because of the plantain ?. In my opinion, this was the best of the four flavors I ordered. Each bite was like a little piece of heaven.  The flavor combination on this pizza is very ingenious as it contains several familiar flavors that would appeal to the average Nigerian. The crust was pretty impressive. I watched the pizza-making process, and their dough was hand-tossed, and I’m guessing done right because the pizza crust was soft and light on the inside but crispy on the outside. It was neither thin nor thick; Rather, it had a medium density. 

However, there were a lot of sweet elements in this one; sweet bell peppers, sweet chili sauce, and our God-given dodo! Even with the added spice, it was still on the verge of crossing over to the sweet side. Regardless, I thought it was delicious, and I dare to say it was similar to pizza jambalaya, given the variety of flavors and ingredients. The good thing is that the flavors all worked well together. The pizza was cheesy, sweet, slightly spicy, and tangy. I think this is going to be a bestseller.

SPICY MIXED PIZZA – 5000

My sisters really liked this pizza. They seem to have more Yoruba in them than I do because they couldn’t get enough of that spice??. I, on the other hand, am in the middle. It was definitely spicy, but I felt like a lot was going on; lots of flavors and spice. I think less is more on this one. There was a generous amount of cheese and meatballs on this pizza, which I liked. If you love spice, then this is the one for you.  

CHICKEN BBQ PIZZA – 4700

This pizza was quite good. It was very juicy and palatable. Once again, it was cheesy, and you have to hand it to Dodo pizza for their consistency with the cheese. I love it! The BBQ sauce was tasty, but I felt it lacked that tang you get with BBQ sauce. It was a little on the sweet side, and it could have done without the sweet corn. The rest of the experience was great. 

SHAWARMA PIZZA – 5000

Honestly, I ordered this pizza out of curiosity. It was a gamble because I didn’t know what shawarma pizza would taste like, but I’m so glad I did because it well exceeded my expectations. The sauce on top was the star! It shined without overpowering all the other flavors.

This pizza tasted like a nice variation of our Nigerian shawarma, minus the sausage. While eating, I wanted a bit more of that shawarma sauce on top, but I understand that too much of it could be overpowering. 

My sister said if she could have the sauce in a bottle, she would lick it every day.  Imagine your favorite shawarma in pizza form. The sauce just made it what it was and made the pizza live up to its name.

ICE CREAM AT SCOOPD X DODO PIZZA ABUJA

ICE CREAM – 900 (PER SCOOP)

I tried the red velvet and Italian biscuit cream flavors. The red velvet tasted great, but I preferred the Italian biscuit. Both flavors were smooth and velvety with an extra creamy consistency, just as they should be. However, I believe they would benefit from more flavors, as there are only 12 flavors available. Some variety would be great ?.

AMBIANCE

The Dodo pizza space is very urban and modern. It’s large, colorful, and vibrant to a T.  I fell in love with the large pendant lamp holders hanging from the ceiling. There was a large picture of the iconic dodo pizza logo on the wall (not the plantain I once thought it was ?).

The pizzeria’s interior is designed beautifully to exude a fun and youthful vibe. It’s very picturesque in a super cute way. I can already see tons of boys and girls taking photos by the dodo logo. I love it. 

GENERAL THOUGHTS

Dodo pizza Abuja is definitely somewhere I’ll be ordering from in the not-so-distant future. Three things that stood out for me on my visit were the variety on the menu, the cheesiness of their pizza, and the fact that they deliver everywhere in Abuja.
